Dorcas gratefully looks back on 2012. This can be read in the Annual Report that is available now. The funds available for the projects have increased compared to 2011, which enabled the organization to make a change in the lives of many people. Most of planned results in Health, Sustainable Livelihoods, Child Development and Social Care were achieved. Last week eighteen young South Africans graduated from the permaculture course where they participated in. Vusi, one of the graduates, enjoyed the experience and said: ‘I found a connection with nature and learnt that I can play an active role in my community to alleviate poverty'. With this training the youth learn gardening skills and how they can apply these to make a living. ‘I can actually make a living with these skills,' commented Emile, another graduate.

Dorcas investigates opportunities to expand its work in South Sudan to Warrap State. The whole country faces major developmental problems and Warrap State in particular has high levels of malnutrition, insecurity through violent cattle raiding and large flood prone areas. Returnees from Sudan and IDPs (for instance from Abyei) live in the state. Currently, the programmes of Dorcas are concentrated in Western Bahr el Ghazal.
