Many children live without hope
for the future. They suffer from poverty, sickness or war. In many development
countries parents die young because of diseases like AIDS, lack of nutritious
food and lack of health care. Because of this, children become dependent of other
people in their neighborhood. Often they end up in the streets or in a family
where there are insufficient means to raise the child in a proper way.
In cooperation with you, Dorcas Aid wants to give many of these children a new
life! Our Child Sponsorship programs help children on an
individual basis. With a monthly amount of € 25 the life of a child changes
completely. With a little money a lot can be done in one of the 20 child
sponsorship programs! The support may partly differ from program to program, depending
on the local situation or even the personal situation of the child. Usually the
program provides:
School fees, school
uniform and school materials
Nutritious food
Clothing and shoes
Medical care
Counseling for the
child and the parents
Getting acquainted
with the Gospel
Sponsorship in a nutshell:
The local partner organization
selects the children who will benefit from the program. The target group is children
from the poorest families or in the most desperate circumstances.
A child will
normally be in the sponsorship program till (around 20 years of age) he/she
finished appropriate education. Main criterion is that the child is equipped
for society as well as possible. Some children may leave the program earlier,
for example because of moving to another place, improved living circumstances
of the family or lack of motivation even after thorough counseling.
When you start to
sponsor a child, you will receive a nice sponsorship folder, with information
(and a picture) of the child, the program and the local situation. Once a year
you will receive a progress report from the child and a newsletter from the
program; every two years a new picture.
It is possible to write
to or even visit your sponsored child. Giving and praying for the child will
bring about a huge change in his/her life!
Dorcas cooperates with local churches / Christian organizations. They have the
knowledge of the local culture and circumstances. They started the support with
the limited means that they have, because they feel the love of God for these
children in their desperate situation. Dorcas trains and equips these local
Christians so that they will do an even better job, and will be able to support
more and more needy children in their surroundings.
Dorcas currently supports around 3.500 children in 12 countries.
