From what countries
can I sponsor a child?
Dorcas has Child Sponsorship programs in 11 countries: Moldova, Ukraine,
Armenia, Egypt, Ethiopia,
Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania,
Mozambique, Lesotho and South-Africa.
For how long does a
child receive support?
Most important to us is that the sponsored child can finish appropriate
education. Consequently, the child does not automatically leave the program at
the age of 18, but this may take a few more years. A child can leave the
project earlier if he/she does no longer meet the criteria of the project
(like moving to another area, improved living conditions).
How will Dorcas keep
me informed about my sponsored child?
Once a year you will receive a progress report about the child's situation and
about the support received during the previous year. At least every 2 years you
will receive a new picture.
Can I write with the
child?
Yes, it is possible for you to send letters to your sponsored child in 10 of
the 11 countries. Many children like very much to receive mail from their
sponsor, and many also write back if possible. You can write in English to
Dorcas HQ in Andijk, The Netherlands, and we will take care that the child
receives the letter. It is not possible to send packages. Can I visit my
sponsored child?
Yes, in most of the projects you are welcome to visit your sponsored child. (In
a few of the programs a visit is not possible for security reasons.) Let us know 2 months before, so that we can
arrange your visit in cooperation with the local partner organization.
Am I the only sponsor
of the child?
Yes, you are the only sponsor of your sponsored chld, and your sponsorship
money is only destined for that specific child (some of it for the child's
family).
How can I know that the support is
really spent for my sponsored child?
Dorcas Aid in the Netherlands
has very high reliability score.
Dorcas Aid has the CBF-hallmark (Central Bureau of
Funds recruitment) for charity organizations, meaning for example that fundraising
costs are no more than 25%. These costs are even no higher than some 15%.
Since a few years, Dorcas Aid also acquired the ISO
hallmark for the worldwide organization, which is quite unique.
Moreover,
Dorcas maintains a strict control in several ways of the spending of the funds,
and the quality of the support.
