From what
countries can I sponsor a family?
Dorcas has Family Care projects in 4 countries: Romania,
Moldova, Ukraine, Albania. However, the coming years
we will end the support for families in Romania,
so families for sponsorship are available from Moldova,
Ukraine and Albania.
For how long does a family
receive support?
A family will normally be in the sponsorship program for around 5 years. Some
families may leave the program earlier, for example because of moving to
another place or improved living circumstances. Some will need more years of support
before they can leave the Family Care program.
How will Dorcas keep
me informed about my family?
Once a year you will receive a progress report about the family's situation and
about the support received during the previous year. At least every 2 years you
will receive a new picture.
Can I write with my family?
Yes, it is possible for you to send letters to your family. Many families like
very much to receive mail from their sponsor, and many also write back if
possible. You can write in English to Dorcas HQ in Andijk, The Netherlands, and
we will take care that the family receives the letter. It is not possible to
send packages. Can I visit a family?
Yes, in most of the projects you are welcome to visit your family. (In a few of
the programs a visit is not possible for security reasons.) Let us know 2 months before, so that we can
arrange your visit in cooperation with the local partner organization.
Am I the only sponsor
of this family?
Yes, you are the only sponsor of the family, and your sponsorship money is only
destined for that family.
How can I know that the support is
really spent for that family?
Dorcas Aid in the Netherlands
has very high reliability score.
Dorcas Aid has the CBF-hallmark (Central Bureau of
Funds recruitment) for charity organizations, meaning for example that fundraising
costs are no more than 25%. These costs are even no higher than some 15%.
Since a few years, Dorcas Aid also acquired the ISO
hallmark for the worldwide organization, which is quite unique.
Moreover,
Dorcas maintains a strict control in several ways of the spending of the funds,
and the quality of the support.
