Beslan – Five Years Later
Today, 343 white balloons are released in Beslan: one balloon for every victim that died in the massacre five years ago. The memorial began on Tuesday, September 1, and ends today at the cemetery where every name of each victim is mentioned.
Tuesday morning began in Beslan with funeral music at 8.30 am. At 9.15 am (when the attack of the school began) - the school bell rang in memory of the victims. In the afternoon, the committee "Mothers of Beslan" organized a press-conference to keep the tragedy under attention.
Wednesday (September 2) was called the "Day of Silence" in the whole Republic of North Ossetia. Even the TV and radio adjusted their broadcasting.
Today - Thursday September 3 - a memorial service is organized in the sports hall of school nr.1 and at 1 pm - the moment when the bomb exploded - a bell sounds. Thereafter, there's a silent minute.
Dorcas, together with its local partner organization, today continues to render assistance to the children of Beslan in the form of summer-camps, social support and activities. The Dorcas-built community centre for the adults and children of Beslan is expected to open its doors at the end of the year. More info will follow!
