Dorcas Romania Nominated, Volunteers Win Price
Friday December 5, Pro Vobis (the National Volunteer Center of Romania) chose Dorcas volunteer Mr F. Muszka, 78, winner of the category "Volunteer of the year - Senior category". Mr Muszka is a volunteer from Mera, Romania, where he has opened his house for Dorcas and local partner Diakonia. The Roma children in the project now have a safe place to study: in the house of Mr Muszka. While the children study under the supervision of the project leader, Mr Muszka himself visits elderly and lonely persons, talking and listening to them and assisting them in different ways.
For the award in the category "Volunteer of the year - Youngster category", 6-year old A Berki won. He is a beneficiary in a Roma Education project, supported by Dorcas Aid and local partner organisation Diakonia.
Dorcas Aid Romania was chosen one of the four finalists for the award "Best Financing Organization of a Community Program". The three other finalists were two banks and a large business. Dorcas Aid made it to the final because of all the financial and material support it provides the local partner organisations with - in addition to the capacity building, community trainings and empowering of the beneficiaries it provides. The National Bank for Development (Group Societe General) won the award. In total, there were nine categories of which Dorcas won two and made it to the final in one.
