Albania Floods: Dorcas Sends Relief
This morning, a truck with relief items left from Andijk, the Netherlands, with destination Albania. The truck contains 600 packages of food, shoes and household utensils in addition to 150 bags of blankets and 700 bags of sorted clothing to assist the people who have fallen victim to the heavy flood.
More than 2,500 houses and 10 000 ha of land are under water due to the recent heavy snow- and rainfall in the North of Albania. Some 4,200 persons have been evacuated.
The Albanian government has made a call to institutions and the public to render assistance.
The government has reacted quickly to the situation and moved the people at risk from the most dangerous areas and fortunately no lives have been lost.
The whole area has turned into a large lake and in some places only the roof of the houses can be seen. People have lost most or all of their belongings. Returning home seems for many impossible.
The government has made an appeal to all people in the country and all government institutions and foreign and local NGO-s to contribute for helping the people in need and overcome this situation with less pain as possible. This is why also Dorcas responds!
The emergency situation is expected to last for quite a period of time as the winter is at its peak and lot of rain- and snow fall is expected in the days and weeks to come. Please visit our webpage soon again for updates!
