South Sudan: Doors of Elderly Home Open

Today, the Dorcas-built home for grannies in Waw, South Sudan, opened its doors.

The building, with rooms for 46 elderly people, includes beds, blankets, bed sheets, kitchen utensils and others necessities for the elderly who - until today - have lived on the street in very difficult circumstances.

On the compound, there are also two office rooms, a kitchen, dining hall  and sanitary facilities including shower rooms and water closets. In addition, a borehole was drilled with a hand pump to which a small electrical pump is attached filling two water tanks, each with 2000 litres capacity.

The Minister of Social Development and the Minister of Information of Western Bahr El Gazal officially opened the facilities earlier today. The 46 inhabitants of the home, government officials, community leaders and representatives of Dorcas' local partner organisation El Shaddai were present at the opening.

The elderly home is first of its kind in Waw.
