Dorcas receives ISO certification

The international development organization Dorcas Aid International is ISO 9001:2000 certified.
In the Hungarian city Debrecen Mr. György Ormay, Lead Assessor of Lloyd's Register Group in Hungary this afternoon presented the ISO certificate to Mr. Dirk Jan Groot, the President of Dorcas Aid International. This event took place during the annual international meeting of Dorcas Aid International. Representatives of 15 different countries where Dorcas is registered were present. Among the speakers was the mayor of Debrecen. ‘By improving the quality of our service, we hope to be able to help more poor people', says Jolling Veninga Dorcas' Quality Controller.

The organisation was assessed in the areas of policy and procedures, organizational structures, performance and client satisfaction, human resource management and the management of resources. All levels of the Dorcas organization went through the evaluation which took eleven months to complete. This included the thirteen field and regional offices of Dorcas in Eastern Europe, C.I.S. and Africa as well as the five affiliated donor organisations and the local partner organizations, whose development projects Dorcas funds.

Mr. Geert van Heijningen of Certiked, member of the Lloyd's Register Group, was involved in the Dorcas audits. He states, ‘Dorcas emphatically seized the ISO process in order to attain improved results, with the ultimate goal of serving the poor better.'

The auditors were very content with the way Dorcas monitors it's 200 development projects and the structural way Dorcas incorporates Partner Capacity Building in it's programmes with the aim of ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in the partner project implementation processes.
‘The ISO certificate is not the end but the beginning of the improvement process of Dorcas. The recommendations in the report will help us to continually improve our organization. Every year a review will take place and every three years our organization will be subject to another evaluation process.' says Veninga.


Dorcas is a Christian relief and development organization, taking care of the poor and oppressed, irrespective of their race, religion, gender or political conviction. The organization has been existence for over 25 years. Dorcas has four Regional offices, one in Hungary, Russia, Egypt and Kenya and eleven field offices, one in Romania, Moldova, Transcarpathia, Albania, Bosnia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique and South Africa. Besides these there are five affiliated donor organizations: Dorcas Hulp Nederland, Dorcas Aid Romania, Dorcas Aid Hungary, Dorcas Aid South Africa and Dorcas Aid America.
