DAI Assists Cold Wave Victims In China

ChinaIt was described as the worst winter weather in a century. One of the affected areas is Guinzhou where the situation is extremely difficult due to the cold and shortage of electricity.

In February, DAI - in cooperation with its local partner - assisted 5500 poor people who live in isolated areas with direct food relief who otherwise do not have access to food. Before the distribution begun, many of these families had not had water nor electricity for two weeks.

"The situation was very difficult" says DAI's co-worker in Guinzhou "people were digging water from the fields to drink, because all the water pipes were damaged. At least they have water and food now."

The cold knocked out power and water supplies and shut down transport across Central, Southern and Eastern provinces in January and February.
