Dorcas Assists Myanmar Cyclone Victims

Reports about the devastating consequences of the cyclone Nargis which hit Myanmar May 3 and 4 continue to speak of great destruction to people, animals and land. In some cases, the population of entire villages were killed. In others, only children or women survived.

May 15, the United Nations estimated the number of people affected to be 2,5 millions.

In response to one of the world's worst disasters in 20 years, Dorcas, together with its partner MTI, supports 50,000 victims in Myanmar through an INGO which has been working inside the country for 15 year.

Dorcas Responds:
Funds for medicines and supplies to meet critical immediate needs

"There are people in Myanmar now who need our help" explains Bas Vanderzalm, president of Dorcas' partner MTI. "They cannot wait for outside assistance. That's why we have decided to send funds immediately to help our partners on the ground purchase medicines and health supplies to save lives and prevent disease."

As an initial response, Dorcas and MTI will assist 50,000 victims for three months with medical care, food aid, water purification and provision of non-food relief items.
