Problem Program Addresses:
The program is addressing the lack of basic needs and the lack of care facilities for the old and frail in Lesotho. Due to the impact of HIV/AIDS many of the elderly in Lesotho are burdened with the care of their grandchildren. The number of deaths in the (re)productive age group has grown immensely after the rise of the HIV/AIDS pandemic the leaving many OVCs in the care of elderly family and community members. The program also seeks to address the vulnerability of the elderly which include; serious illnesses, lack of shelter, financial and economic problems, inadequate food and nutrition.
Purpose:
Improve the living condition of elderly people. Make the elderly people lead a more dignified and socially active life.
Main Activities:
Provision of food for elderly. Trainings on income generating activities and on health/hygiene. Home visits. Care and support groups for the elderly for socializing and support. |
