Achievements Until Now:
Increased access to different health care services such as medical consultations, medicine provision, maternity care, immunization for infants and mothers and health education, people of different age and sex groups received messages regarding HIV/AIDS prevention, orphans and vulnerable children received support on school material, food and psycho-social support. Further, opportunistic diseases among HIV infected people were reduced, education about HIV/AIDS and related topics was provided, home based care was provided.
Target Group:
Mainly people living with HIV/AIDS, orphans and vulnerable children. Also expectant mothers and malnourished children are targeted and the wider community is educated.
Problem Program Addresses:
The HIV/AIDS infection rate is high, negative effects of HIV/AIDS are widespread and maternal and child health services are unaffordable for many.
Purpose:
Improve access to health services, information, support and care among vulnerable people.
Main Activities:
Educate people about HIV/AIDS prevention and the practice of ‘kupitakufa' (type of widow inheritance) during home visits, beneficiaries trainings, group debates, drama shows and in schools; home based care and social support for HIV infected people and orphans and vulnerable children; training peer educators and church leaders on HIV/AIDS who train the youth; encourage people to get tested for HIV; support families to take care of HIV infected people and orphans and vulnerable children; encourage access to ARVs and medicines for opportunistic infections for HIV infected people; support for orphans and vulnerable children such as food, clothing, school materials; food supplements for HIV infected people; small loans for HIV infected people to expand business; stimulate vegetable production for HIV infected and orphans and vulnerable children; educate beneficiaries about their rights; reduce malnutrition among young children with locally available food; educate expectant mothers on maternal care including prenatal consultation, family planning.
