Achievements Until Now:
As a result of this project, water borne diseases and skin diseases usually associated with poor sanitation among the target group have significantly reduced. More than 23,000 people improved their access to drinking water and about 4,000 improved their sanitation facilities. Water borne diseases are prevented by improved hygiene practices.
Target Group:
3300 households are targeted among the poorest families in which the head of the household is either unemployed, elderly or is a female headed household.
Problem Program Addresses:
DAI-Mozambique seeks to reduce waterborne diseases in Sofala province of Mozambique, as well as people's limited access to drinking water and sanitation.
Purpose:
DAI-Mozambique seeks to improve health conditions of the vulnerable target group in Sofala region through provision of safe and clean water, improved sanitation facilities and hygiene promotion.
Main Activities:
DAI-Mozambique supports construction of water structures (shallow wells and installation of hand-pumps) and sanitation facilities (washing basins and improved VIP latrines) among the target group. Hygiene promotion has been effective in reducing the incidence of diarrhea and other waterborne diseases, particularly in Children and pregnant women. The target group received trainings in local governance, environmental conservation and HIV/AIDS. Training for organizing local committees, planting trees and installing energy-saving stoves. |
