Project/Sector Name:
Child Care & Development, Rehabilitation of underprivileged children, Romania
Partner(s):
Christian Centre Bethania
Christian Foundation Diakonia
Geographical Area:
Bihor and Cluj counties
Start Sector:
1997
Achievements Until Now:
Between 1997 and 2006, two orphanages and a home for street children have been assisted. A transition home has also been established and developed during this period. Local partner organisations are now running these programs on their own.
Target Group:
The two partners Dorcas supports are taking care of 100 beneficiaries (children), plus their families.
Problem Program Addresses:
Children in poor families can not always stay in their own family due to poverty and consequently, e.g. some girls end up in placement centres. The program therefore focuses on assisting the poor families in question, to improve their economical situation, to help girls from placement centre integrate in the society. The program also addressed the unprivileged children in order to prevent them abandoning school. They are also educated on their hygiene.
Purpose:
To equip and build strong families (both parents or one parent) so the children can live and grow up in their own families. To socially integrate the girls that have grown up at the placement centre in Orlat. To prevent the institutionalization of children from poor families/one parent families. To integrate children in their own families having been abandoned. To personalize intervention in girls' life in order to integrate in the society. To support unprivileged children from Bihor County for having a better life. Children will have raised their school results and improved the skills of hygiene.
Main Activities:
Counselling of vulnerable children and their families. Rehabilitation of girls raised in state institute. Giving educational support. Implementing recreational programs. Rendering medical support. Giving children one meal every day.
