Project/Sector Name:
Health Care & HIV/AIDS, Sudan
Partner(s):
Diocese of Wau
HebaSwiss Medical services, Abu Rof clinic
Episcopla church Rumbek
Geographical Area:
Omdurman (Khartoum), Wau and Rumbek, South Sudan
Start Sector:
2002
Achievements Until Now:
The clinics in Wau were established in 2002 by our partners. In total, an average of 100,000 patients are treated yearly in the clinics and special attention is given to women and children. The mothers are taught to take care of their sick and malnourished children.
Target Group:
IDP's (Internally Displaced People) and other people living in poor areas. Some IDP's visit these clinics also from the other IDP-areas encouraged by the low fees.
Problem Program Addresses:
Health services are available in Khartoum but the IDP's do not have access due to the high fees and difficulties in transportation. In South Sudan, the access is very limited due to civil wars and poverty. Health services need to increase regarding the displaced people returning to the South.
Purpose:
To increase access to primary health care for the IDP's and inhabitants of Khartoum, Wau and Rumbek.
Main Activities:
The clinics provide general medical care including laboratory services, five days a week. Health education about mother and child care is given regularly.
