Achievements Until Now:
About 70 street children have been reached through feeding activities, spiritual and social care. Approximately 30 children have been rehabilitated, recovered from addiction to drugs or alcohol, reunited with their families. They are back in school or have jobs.
Target Group:
About 100 street children of the city of Uzhgorod are targeted every year. Most of the street children are from needy families or from families with addiction to drugs or alcohol. There are also orphans that are out of government orphanages and have no place or family to go to. The program also targets the parents/families of the children.
Problem Program Addresses:
The number of crimes committed by street children in Uzhgorod has increased.These children have no support in finding their way out of drug or alcohol addiction and lack skills for finding a job. They are not assisted by the authorities in rehabilitation and reunion with their families.
Purpose:
To decrease the number of crimes committed by street children, to improve the moral standards of them and their parents/family members, to provide skill training for the children, to spread HIV/AIDS awareness among the children and to provide social, spiritual and medical care for children.
Main Activities:
Social workers engage in personal conversation with the children. Workshops are set up and the children are provided vocational training in carpentry, turning, hairdressing, household, cooking, etc. Maintain contact with parents/family members and work on reuniting children with them. Feeding children at the soup kitchen of the Methodist church 5 times a week. Feeding children during night raids at least once a week.Raise HIV/AIDS awareness through lectures, videos, literature, etc.
